Traditional X-ray methods such as spondylography and CT are ineffective in diagnostics.  The results of these examinations are usually normal. The method of choice for diagnosis of this pathology is MRI of the cervical and thoracic spinal cord.

On saggital T2 tomograms, lesions show hyperintensive signal confined to the dorsal parts of the spinal cord . This is a typical feature of funicular myelosis - pathological hyperintensive zones capture several segments of the spinal cord.

T1w – images is usually poorly informative.

The most pathognomonic changes can be obtained on axial sections. In the dorsal and lateral parts of the spinal cord, on T2w - images, MRI shows the typical symmetrical areas of high intensity lesions, resembling the inverted letter V.

In rare cases, some researchers note the presence of pathological peripheral weakly expressed contrast enhancement.

With dynamic scanning after a long course of vitamin therapy, the brightness and prevalence of changes in the spinal cord decreases, which correlates with the improvement of clinical symptoms.
